do you really need to master all the skills necessary to keep you computer running well? i don�t think so. if you are the typical user what you really need is your computer to work efficiently and effectively. it is important that the average user should be aware enough to be able to use the thing, not be able to disassemble and reassemble it.
i liken it to driving a car. you really need to know how to start it, avoid driving into others and definitely stop. you should be aware of basic maintenance scheduling. keep an eye on tire inflation and listen for unusual sounds or strange leaks. take my current car. i know that in order to change the spark plugs closest to the firewall the easiest way to get at them is through the wheel wells, and if you want to save time loosen the motor mounts and jack up the engine slightly. but i don�t want to do it!
